Hi, i have added the dslym snippet from this site into a fairly modified smaugfuss with hotboott. Everything has gone swimmingly with exception to 2 small buy non the less painfull issues.

1. is Profiling timer expired that show up in the shell as below.
Mon Mar 14 16:42:25 2005 :: Log Tommi: hotboot
Mon Mar 14 16:42:25 2005 :: Hotboot initiated by Tommi.
Mon Mar 14 16:42:25 2005 :: Preserving world state....
Mon Mar 14 16:42:25 2005 :: Saving player files and connection states....
Mon Mar 14 16:42:25 2005 :: Executing hotboot....
Profiling timer expired

2. is to do with spec_funs, where it seems to find an EOF befor its ment to??, the error in the shell looks like below,
Mon Mar 14 16:42:09 2005 :: Loading spec_funs...
Mon Mar 14 16:42:09 2005 :: [*****] BUG: fread_word: EOF encountered on read.

Mon Mar 14 16:42:09 2005 :: [*****] BUG: load_specfuns: Premature end of file!

With this i have looked at the file spec_fun.dat that i included into the system dir, and all the specs are in there that i have, and i also removed the ones that i dont.

Im sort of at a loss as to whats going on in either of these, and i thank you all in advance for any help offered.

Peace.

Got me on the profiling timer thing. I've never seen that one before. Were you running any kind of code profiling at the time?

As for the specfun file, I swore that bug got fixed.... most annoying to see it keep coming back

As for running profiling software, i realy dont know, well to be presice i have no clue at all, i dont even know what profiling software is.

I did a search of the net and found a bunch of posts on various forums and none of them make much sence to me, tho there seems to be an issue with that and the loading of different software in different linux's.

I'm running mandrake 10.1 kernal 2.6.8.1 gcc 3.4.something i think it is offhand and the top part of my makefile looks as thus
CC      = gcc
PROF    = -p

W_FLAGS = -Wall -Wshadow -Wformat-security -Winline -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Wredundant-decls -Werror

C_FLAGS = -g2 $(W_FLAGS) $(PROF) -export-dynamic
L_FLAGS = -lm $(PROF) -ld
l

Just incase any of this makes a difference to the profiling thing.

Peace and thanks so far

I think i had a brain wave, is the PROF -p in the makefile for a profiler, in the mean time im going to remark that out and see what becomes of it.

Peace.
--EDIT--
Well i have solvered that part of the problem, i realy need to learn what all those things in the makefile actually mean, now the only problem i have is the one about the EOF in the spec_fun stuff, i can post the loading code if you want me to, i might actually have an old version of the code.
