I originally thought this was a fluke, but it's been verified and recreated a couple of times. When a player posts on a board, they will occasionally get entrance/exit messages that occur rooms away, in an entirely different zone. In the middle of posting, at least one player has gotten the message "Cycle complete. Restarting sequence", but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not. Once the note has been posted, the player may get another 2 or 3 messages from the other room, and if they use the "where" command, they won't be listed in the area they are standing in.

Anyone have an idea what's causing this? It's really freaking my players out

Well that message is the reset message for void.are. Which is where players are sent to write things IIRC. Which players are seeing the message? The ones writing? If so, it's likely that void.are is resetting in the middle of their message, in which case, it's not a bug, but mearly an inconvenience.

P.S.

I know this is true for things that use pager; Messages the player was intended to see while they were reading something that has paged will be "on hold" until after they finish reading the paged information. So it will appear to spam the player with messages after they leave something that is paged. It may be similar for the editor sub-state. I'm not exactly sure.

Well, that clears up one issue (the reset one). I figured it was a reset, but wasn't quite sure. Why the players are getting stuff like "A troll enters from the west." or seeing rounds of another player's current fight while in the middle of writing a note (in a whole other zone, no less) is what's boggle-worthy (to me anyway). But you've definitely given me something to go on, so thanks

Dunno for sure, I'm at work and can't look at the code, you might wanna check that the character is removed from the room and properly added to the void.are area. Another thing to check is run it though gdb, throw a selective breakpoint in based on a specific message that you know for sure you can recreate ( like the troll thing, as long as you can force it), and then just back trace, see where its coming from.

You can use something like this, not sure if its exact:

break send_to_char if strcmp (argument, "A troll enters from the east";) == 0
