Hey there,

Trying to compile SmaugFUSS on the newest Ubuntu. Everything is working fine, except the generating the dependencies. Here is my problem.

Generating dependency file ...
Can't do inplace edit on dependencies.d: Permission denied.
Done compiling mud.
make -s dns
Done compiling DNS resolver.

This seems more like an Ubuntu problem, but I'm not familiar enough to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

While I can't fix the problem for you, I can tell you it's a permissions issue on the folder where the file is being created/modified. Make sure you have read/write access to the folder/file and you should be good to go.

Yep, definately a permission issue.

First, make sure you unpacked things as the same user who's going to be compiling it. If not, sudo chown -R yourusername smaugdir.
Then make sure everything has writeable permissions.

I suggest "find smaugdir -type d | xargs chmod 755" and "find smaugdir -type f | xargs chmod 644".

Also, make sure your umask is set to a sane value like 0022 or 0002... if umask is 0222, for example, all new files will be created without write permisisons.
