I don't need anyone to code anything, but I would love to know how to go about coding in a couple of things, e.g. books with a settable number of pages/going into buffer to edit each individual page, or giving mobs & items variables that are expanded off of v0 v1 v2 etc, and while waiting for a post on a forum is fun and all, I would really love it if someone could find the time to answer some questions (Lots are broad, but some are specific) over Aim/Yim/Msn etc.

If you won't have the time, then don't worry about it, I'll figure it out on my own... eventually.

Why over AIM/etc? If you stick to questions here asking on the forum, everyone will benefit (those who have the same question).

For the book idea, I'd go about looking over the note code. That's probably the first place you want to start. Get an idea of what it is doing and then move on from there.

Not really sure what you're asking about the second question. Can you give an example?

Yeah, sure

Roger has an mprog that does this:

greet_all 100:
say Greetings $n!
mpvar self new $n

mstat shows
Variables:
Thisguy

or:
mpvar self edit $n stringoflettersornumbers

Variables
Thisguy - stringoflettersornumbers

etc.

There's a Smaug prog variable snippet out there. Check MudBytes for it.

Expanding on this, make a book a container that can only accept notes, then, have them write a note, eg:

[code]
> note write
Entering buffer.
> Once upon a time, the fish did a dish ka bish.
> /s
Note saved.
> put note in book
You attach a page to the book.
> look book
Book 'fish dish' has 1 page
> book compile fish
You bind up 'fish dish'. This item will now appear in chests around the world!

You will probably have to write a way for the book to be read if you go with it being a container that only accepts notes.

While it has been awhile, I think that typically the books were done with the pages as extra descriptions for the item for when people wanted to read the book. So after you redo put so you can put pages in the book you will have to update look so you can look at the pages. You could go with it just copying the note information over to extra descriptions on the book though if you wanted to not modify do_look.

Using values to set the page, you would "read" the first page, and set the value up one. Or make a read command, and allow support for page numbers.

Just making sure you knew you would have to also make some way to read the information in the pages. :)

I could picture someone not knowing otherwise just going cool and tossing in books like that and then wonder how to read them now :)
