You need the compiler suite (gcc) and perhaps libzlib-devel. It's very likely that all other dependencies will be installed automatically from the standard packages. If the distribution has any kind of "developer" package defaults, use that setting.

it says that libzlib-devel is not an opinion.

According to the andlinux homepage it's a complete package installation.

I suggest you simply try to compile both stocks and see what happens.

It will tell you if you are missing packages, which you can then get by using the synaptic (GUI) or apt-get command to install.

First you should do what Hanaisse suggested. If you still don't have packages, you can look them up. If it's Debian based, zlib will be something like zlib1g-devel; you can search for it.

So I got it to compile and it won't let me connect unless I telnet through the shell program. It won't let me connect through my clients. Even though I am using localhost as the addy and 4322 as the port which is the one assigned in the startup file any ideas?

What happens when you try to connect with a client and what clients are you using?

Also, the default port in the startup files are 4000 (for 1.4) and 4020 (for Fuss1.9), so you must have changed it. Try changing it back.

If you're trying to connect with a client on the Windows side you need to specify the ip address for andLinux, which is not localhost. Bring up the Windows command line, Start->Run type in cmd and hit ok or enter, and type ipconfig. Here's what mine shows:
Ethernet adapter TAP-Colinux:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.11.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . :

For me to connect to something running on andLinux I'd have to telnet to 192.168.11.1:(whatever port #).
Hope this helps.

I tried doing that using cmud and mushclient. when I use ipconfig two ips comes up and neither of them work.

it's running for sure.

2553 ? S 0:00 su - dbnu -c eval $TERM; exec env TERM='linux'
2558 ? S 0:01 /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/sbin/launcher.pl
2575 tty1 S 0:00 -bash
2591 tty1 S 0:00 /bin/csh -f ./startup
2597 tty1 S 0:03 ../src/smaug 4322
2602 tty1 R+ 0:00 ps x

and the ip shows the same one you posted. In the address I put 192.168.11.1 the port I use is 4322 because it's a codebase I pulled right off of my shell. What else could be causing me to not be able to access it?

Could be a firewall issue from either Windows or AndLinux. Did you get a popup from Windows about Andlinux trying to connect or something like that? If so, did you disallow it? I don't know if AndLinux has its own firewall...

Do you run more than one firewall? You may have a firewall from some type of anti-virus suite running on top of the Windows firewall and the andLinux system wasn't added to one, or both, of them and that one is still running. Just a thought. I'd suggest you make sure that colinux-daemon.exe, colinux-net-daemon.exe and colinux-slirp-net-daemon.exe are all added to the exceptions list for whatever firewall system you use.

If that doesn't help you might want to try checking on the andLinux forums then. The only thing I can think of that could be preventing you from connecting would be a firewall. Here's the link. Specifically check in the troubleshooting section.
