Just something I thought might give you a laugh. Don't know if you've seen it but meh.

Heres a link to it if it doesn't show:

The theory on ichat last night was that the whole picture was a setup to make fun of Vista -- a lot of the pictures don't seem to be making a reference to anything really.

It may well have been a setup to mock Vista. But the other pics are probably just as valid for what they represent. Like the Dell guy in a stuffy looking corporate business suit, since corps love those things for some reason.

What Samson says is true I think, like the BeOS one, I don't think I've ever seen someone using them so you have to look really hard to find one of those. And Tron probably fits Linux pretty darn well.

No, some of them do make sense, but a lot of them don't. What are NeXT and Unix gangsta rappers? Why is Sun topless? What is that cat creature for Amiga? The "GNU" one isn't even an OS. Why is Tron representative of Linux but not others? I still think the whole thing was a setup.

The Amiga is an animated cat. Those machines got used for little else but making animations back in the day.

I don't know enough about NeXT or Unix to know why tough guy ganstas are used for them. Also not exactly sure why a riot cop is used for RISC. And I don't even know what the Amstrad guy is. Even if all this was nothing more than an elaborate setup to say Vista is flaming gay, I'm all for it :)

The Amiga isn't just an animated cat... it's a "furry".

Sun is probably topless because they have always held the opinion that their machines are "sexy", which was true at some points in time. :)

The RiSC one might have to do with security, the Sun one might have to do with the freedom and maybe the actual fact the most people do their flashing when there is sun outside, or it could just be that Sun is open source, real easy to get it to show you it's insides(I don't know, I've never used it... except for Java), I'm guessing she was feeling pretty free at the time. The amiga was reputed to be a very sexy system and it does animations so meh. unix is the badass of the group(don't ask me why), DEC is probably ancient from you grandaddies time, Tron is a movie for nerds, by nerds (I'd say) and Linux is an OS for nerd by nerds. I know nothing about the rest of them. The idea of what they represent is what they we're going for here I think.

These are all just guesses btw.

RISC is a type of instruction set used in CPU's think IBM's Power line, like the Power6's used in their P Series - and the SPARC line of cpu's used in Sun systems, old Mac's from the 6100's all the way up to the last G5's.

Sun is supposed to be sexy, I have a few Ultra Sparc boxes here, not the newest but they sure do hold their own. Only gripe is the Common Desktop Environment. I hate it.

Unix is pretty badass. We have a few flavors here, IBM's AIX ( our our P Series systems) and HP-UX on our Superdome mainframes. AIX is slightly more badass than HP-UX because of smitty. Smitty (or smit for the old people) makes life much easier when setting up a new system.

Now, why did they leave out OS2 and put in 'GNU'?

If you were wondering, why yes I work for a datacenter.
