What will happen with Arthmoor?
Nothing. Arthmoor is running fine and I have no intention of stopping that anytime soon. Surprisingly it's one of the few MUD things I'm involved with where people haven't been complaining
I've seen almost no effort to actively contribute to live projects. No efforts being put forth to attempt to elevate things to more modern levels, and a rather disturbing general trend toward an "I want this, someone do it for me NOW NOW NOW" attitude. It's sickening.
This is a typical attitude, not just limited to the MUD community. Take QSF for example.
Too true. Maybe you picked up on why I haven't been keen on doing anything more with it. It does pretty much what I want now, and since nobody is interested in offering ideas or helping to modernize it, there's no need in my spending a lot of time with it unless a bug crops up that needs to be fixed. It's also the same with Sandbox. Nobody seems interested in that either, so it gets next to no attention unless my own blog needs something it isn't capable of yet. The key points to consider here in both cases though is that nobody is spending their time on the forums whining about either of these things not getting any attention or not doing what they want. This only seems to be an attribute of the MUD community as far as I can tell, though admittedly I don't spend a lot of time roaming the internet in general to see otherwise.
The tech forums and gaming forums I do visit aren't infested with this sort of problem. If it's because they're moderated better, then I guess it's working. But I suspect it's because the membership has a wholly different attitude with each other to begin with. I don't see anyone complaining about them being forum nazis for trying to enforce some measure of decency or for making people follow posted rules. Several of them would be described as laxed, even by MUD standards, in how they handle policing their communities. But again, only mudders seem to jump down your throat and accuse you of being a racist, sexist, nazi, Hitler lover, Jew hater, homophobe, or whatever the current slur of the day is just because they disagree with your viewpoint. It's this kind of thing that I'm most sick of, even if it's not all directed at me.
