save.c, load_char_obj

Locate:
         else if( !strcmp( word, "MOBILE" ) )
         {
            CHAR_DATA *mob;

            if( ( mob = fread_mobile( fp ) ) )
            {
               ch->pcdata->pet = mob;
               mob->master = ch;
               xSET_BIT( mob->affected_by, AFF_CHARM );
            }
            else
               bug( "%s: Deleted mob saved on %s - skipping", __FUNCTION__, ch->name );
         }

Below that, add:
         else if( !str_cmp( word, "VARIABLE" ) ) // Quest Flags
            fread_variable( ch, fp );

It looks like this was just overlooked when incorporating the Smaug 1.8 features, but without it any variables saved to a pfile will be lost when the person logs on next and then saves.
