As a follow up to my earlier post about switching the race and class selection ordering in nanny(), I'm wondering about dropping all the class restrictions and allowing any race / class combo that a player would want.

Logistically this is doable, but what I worry about is the really poor cases that would result in very difficult character progression, especially for a newbie to the game. Along those lines, I thought about maybe keeping the restrictions but turning them into "suggestions" as it were. So perhaps if you select a half-ogre mage, you would get a message prompting you that this your choices will be difficult to play and ask if you are sure.

Another way I can think of would be to show players two different lists, say 'suggested' and 'available' classes they could pick to go with their race, or vice versa (depending on the order that you use).

What do other people think about this? Has anyone gone this (or any other) route and had issues one way or the other with it? I'm very curious about the experience of others with this before I make any further changes than what I've done so far. Any and all feedback would be appreciated.
