I'm having some DNS lookup problems, in general. I'm using Samson's snippet, but that really doesn't matter.

First off, does anyone know why certain IPs do not resolve to a hostname?

Second, has anyone seen some really weird hostnames? For example, I'm seeing these two weird ones:
j034
i077

I suppose the next logical question should be whose server you're doing this on, and what the IPs in question are. :)

As far as why some IPs don't resolve to a host, occasionally, the lookup just fails. I'm assuming that it generally happens when a server is down somewhere along the line. The ones that NEVER resolve, could be anything.

As far as strange IPs like those, I've seen one on a MUD I code at, yes. k197 or something like that. I don't know if the player plays there anymore or not, don't think I've seen him in a while.

I'm doing this on Arthmoor.

And the lookup doesn't seem to be failing. It never once resolved the IP yet. The IPs that don't resolve are:
65.4.31.11
69.156.57.75

And the IPs that resolve into the weird hostname:
216.79.183.34 is j034
216.79.181.77 is i077

Tested at: http://www.tracert.com/resolver.html

65.4.31.11 gets no data back.
69.156.57.75 also gets no data back.

216.79.183.34 returns j034
216.79.181.77 returns i077

So whatever is up with those 4 IPs seems to be doing it for more than just me.
