I think this is one of those instances where the global replace caused a slight issue. I found this in FUSS 1.7:

   /*
    * Initial \r\n if needed.
    */
   if( d->outtop == 0 && !d->fcommand )
   {
      d->outbuf[0] = '\n';
      d->outbuf[1] = '\r';
      d->outtop = 2;
   }


Shouldn't outbuf[0] and [1] have the those values changed to be consistent with putting \r first?

write_to_pager has the same kind of issue :)
