I think this is one of those instances where the global replace caused a slight issue. I found this in FUSS 1.7:
* Initial \r\n if needed.
if( d->outtop == 0 && !d->fcommand )
d->outbuf = '\n';
d->outbuf = '\r';
d->outtop = 2;
Shouldn't outbuf and  have the those values changed to be consistent with putting \r first?
