Just an FYI for anyone dropping in here looking for MercuryBoard. An effort is being put together to maintain the project while the domain is down. For now it looks like we're all gathering over at http://mboardx.warmage.com to sort things out. There is a first release candidate for what is being called the 1.1.5 version.

I have purchased the mercuryboard.net and .org domains to keep them out of the hands of squatters and will be donating them to use at whatever semi-permanent site becomes the host for the continuation project.

Keep in mind, this is being done with the intentions of returning control back to Jason Warner once he straightens things out with his domain host - assuming he's planning to do so. Anyone wishing to drop by and check things out is welcome to do so, and if you've been in contact with me about MercuryBoard in the last few days, I'd urge you to drop by.

An update to this:

A support forum has been setup for the 1.1.5 release effort. The address can be found at: http://www.quicksilverforums.com and will be the semi-permanent home for things now.

Shortly after the .com domain came back online, I asked Jason about what the plan was and if he'd like to make use of the two domains I purchased while it was down. He responded, and I obtained his permission to post his response:

I have just begun college. To be completely honest, I have no time to continue developing MercuryBoard. However, I am interested in seeing it continue. In what capacity it will continue, I am not sure. Keep the domains and use them for whatever you want for now... I don't think their existence will influence the project very much, but it was thoughtful to scoop them up for future use.

Coincidentally me and Mark both attend Cornell University and we see each other often. Ironically, now that we have the perfect opportunity to develop MercuryBoard, neither of us has the time. He is an Electrical and Computing Engineering major, and I am a Computer Science major. We both have quite a bit of work.

Thanks for the support. We're interested to hear about what you think MercuryBoard should become.

-Jason

I'm sure I don't need to repeat the fact that I wish to see MercuryBoard live on, so what do the rest of you think? I realize this isn't exactly the best place but I figure any of you PHP gurus watching this might have taken an interest in it by now :P

Are you looking to take over the project and find other php gurus to help with it? I mean sure, I'd like to see MercuryBoard continue as well. As far as my personal php knowledge goes, it's minimal. Don't count me in.

Not looking to take over per se, unless of course the original devs don't object to that. More like just keeping the project rolling I guess. Nothing worse than a good piece of software like this going idle and eventually dying just because nobody was in a position to help, or because nobody knew there was a need.

I'd be interesting in providing whatever is needed to keep it running. Its a nice piece of board software, and I will definately use it (eventually) as long as its kept free. It seems all of the board software seems to be going to the pay per license model and it blows. So if support forums, website, etc are needed--let me know--I could offer some development support too I suppose.
