I added two new item types (gun and ammo incase your wondering) to the mud by adding them to the table in afk.h (Yes, they are behind MAX_ITEM_TYPE) and declared the name in the otype table in build.c. Since I don't have alsherok.c (mentioned above the declarations for item types in afk.h, where it says to add it to find_oftype) I ignored that part.
Now, as I'm testing my guncode, whenever I load my two test objects (I can oset the type fine)
I get these messages:
[414hp 996m 150mv] load obj gun
Build: Zelse: load obj gun
Log: [*****] BUG: Read_object: vnum 51501 bad type.
Log: [*****] BUG: ------------------------> 68
You wave your hand, and a newly created golden gun appears in your inventory!
(#51501 - golden gun - lvl 1)
[414hp 996m 150mv] load obj ammo
Build: Zelse: load obj ammo
Log: [*****] BUG: Read_object: vnum 51500 bad type.
Log: [*****] BUG: ------------------------> 69
You wave your hand, and a newly created golden ammo appears in your inventory!
(#51500 - golden ammo - lvl 1)
I also tried loading them at my level thinking it might have something to do with the prototype.

Hi,

Im not using afk source, but why dont you try grepping out the instances of a particular item_type so you know what all code places need to be changed.

Syntax: grep item_potion *.c
or
Syntax: grep item_potion *.h

Oops. That would be because the directions should have sent you to afk.c instead. It used to be called alsherok.c back in the day
