Blah. The easy and obvious often totally escapes us..... well.... the fletch skill was no exception. As it turns out, the damn thing was working just fine. The item assigned as its component was not. Vnum 11421 needs to have value0 set to 1 or the skill always fails. That's it. A simple OLC problem :P

BTW, Bugzilla watchers may note that all of the open bugs that were posted there have been resolved

A quick question about items used as spell components... Are those items created by the mud upon startup or are they defined somewhere in an area file or do I have to go through the skills file and find all of the components (and vnums) and add them to my own areas?
I feel foolish asking this but I can't find those components as objects in any of the area files that come with the download.

They should all be part of void.are which covers vnums from 11000 to 11999. If not, then the spell needs to be adjusted.

I've found it now. Can't believe I missed it. That's the first file I checked!
Blind or stupid?... pick one.
