Ok so I'm trying to get this to compile on cygwin using make clean. Here's what happens:

$ make clean
rm -f o/*.o afkmud.exe afkmud.def afkmud.exp core resolver.exe resolver.o
make all
make[1]: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/mud/afkmud/src'
make -s afkmud
make[2]: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/mud/afkmud/src'
Compiling o/act_comm.o....
Assembler messages:
FATAL: can't create o/act_comm.o: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [o/act_comm.o] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/c/mud/afkmud/src'
make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/c/mud/afkmud/src'
make: *** [clean] Error 2

I haven't used cygwin in many years (I just have an old P300 as a linux server, and ssh into it), but my first question from the error is.. does the directory `/cygdrive/c/mud/afkmud/src/o' exist? You might have to create that by hand if make under cygwin won't do it for you.

Basically, the error is saying it can't create o/act_comm.o.. which means either there is no directory o/ from where you are (in /cygdrive/c/mud/afkmud/src/), or you don't have permission to overwrite an existing act_comm.o there. Since you are always root in cygwin, unless you chmod 000'd the file, or are on a cdrom or something, you should be able to write to it. Thus, my guess goes to the directory not being there.
