Does anyone know if the nanny file has been changed dramatically from the smaug one, and if so, how would i go about putting race and class selection in character creation

Yes. The nanny function is hella different with regard to all that. Adding races and classes for pick during creation will mean you need to alter entry.are to suit your needs. A thorough examination of the area file for that should yield enough for you to figure out what's needed. Look over the speech_progs.
