Like I mentioned before in another post, I am not really a coder, but I'm learning fast. I am starting on writing a "limbs" file that will add support for broken limbs within the game;

example - (fight)
Xander's slash PULVARISES you (400 dam)
That last attack broke your arm!
You are no longer able to dual wield!

example- (heal)
Your broken arm heals a bit.
You can now hold items! (COND_LIMB lowers by 1)

point is that i think this would be awesome for any MUD that strives on realism, but i was wondering if it had been done before.. or somthing similar to it? If so i would love a link so i can kinda follow the structure they have layed out so i can make my own version. Eventually I will have it done and release it for all to use, but if SOME KIND of limb support has been made already, it will speed up the process greatly

Thanks -Xander

DragonRealms and GemStone do something similar. It's more like wounds to the limbs, since in theory a limb just doesn't break. It can be bruised, fractured, and entirely severed. I've wanted to implement this myself, and really it's not that difficult. It's just one of those things that has to be thought through. You'd be making it much more difficult for players, as you'd be making them more frail. And what of healing? Surely a simple heal spell wouldn't repair a broken limb, would it? DragonRealms and GemStone allow people to heal their wounds themselves, but without proper treatment the wounds scar and impair the player further. This goes on into the nervous system and spell casting.

Their system is actually two in one. External wounds and scars, and internal wounds and scars. The combination of the two make your broken limbs. You can bleed internally and externally, and much more. *g*

The way I could see this done is simply by two arrays. Section the body off into limbs, and give each limb their own 'health'. You'd then probably want to make another array for the AC of each limb. From there, you can probably see where it'd lead.

right. Clerical spells wouldn't HEAL it, rather only time would.

I was actually thinking of putting a COND_BROKE_PART into it, and set it on a system of
1-bruised
2-sprained
3-fractured
4-broken

Each would limb would randomly gain a COND_ if the opposing player/mob hit for more than 20% of their health.

I currently have the external bleeding support installed, but i'm not too sure about the internal.. then i would have to create a physitian(sp) class :-p and i already have like 15 classes lol.

but to recap, only time would heal the wounds.. one mud-week lessen's the COND by 1.. thats how im sorta leaning with this.

Well the thing about that is I, again, like DragonRealm's way of it. Healing over time leaves a scar, and enough scarring and you find yourself having difficulty. The only way to heal is through a special way with a special type of healer, or find herbs. Even herbs leave some residuel scarring though.

The idea of limb damage is cool and all, but I'd draw the line at this whole scar thing. Permanent deterioration would simply suck. Eventually if your limbs took enough damage they'd be worthless to you. Then what do you do? Delete and start over? That's not much fun

You should fight on and gnaw of their ankles! Remember the Black Knight from Monty Python's Holy Grail? Let him be an example to us all!

Oh no. Special healers can heal scarred tissue. It just means a warrior can't go out and fight like mad without having to depend on another class.
