Just kind of wondering aloud, has anyone actually implemented meta-aggressive mobiles? As far as I understood it, this was intended (at least in SMAUG) to make it so that NPCs would attack both NPCs and PC, unlike the standard aggression flag behavior (PC only).

I'm surprised not to have seen anyone do something like this, so I went ahead and implemented it and did some testing. I can see some fun uses for it, rampaging mobiles for example, slaughtering a bunch of other NPCs or invading an area. :imp:

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else did something like this and if not, why not? If so, did you have any issues that in hindsight you wish you'd thought about earlier?

We did this in BIYG (Smaug) with some simple progs. Haven't seen any downsides and it's created some hilarious situations. Nothing complex though.

I vaguely remember that bit in our old Diku Alfa... I think it was used to mean "attack any player that you see, regardless of the usual checks". As I recall, normally aggressive npc's would ignore folks with certain spell effects (pacify?).

I like the idea of making them attack other NPC's though. I'd probably code it to attack anything that's a different vnum than itself, so you can drop a dozen goblins in town and they'll roam around killing everything except each other. :)

Not a bad idea on checking vnums, good tip.

I'm pretty sure there's a mob invasion snippet out there somewhere that would allow for the type of thing you're talking about (I want to say it was Cronel's work maybe?).
