Hello!
First, I will say I'm Argentinian, so I apologize for my ugly English.
I have some questions I would like to solve.

1. How to run Smaugfuss1.9 from "startup"? I'm using Windows and cygwin.
2. How to add the command "oldscore"?.
And finally:
How do you choose to display special characters like "á", "é", "í", "ó", "ú" and "ñ"?

Thanks for your patience!

Answer:
1. nohup ./startup &
2. easiest way to learn, is to search for all references to a command of choice, then basically add into those areas it is referenced with the new command name (do_oldscore). important parts are basically placing do_oldscore in an appropriate .c file, probably where do_score is, adding a define in the appropriate .h file, doing a clean make and adding it the rest of the way in-game via cedit.

Okay, so...you happen to be using Vista or Win7? I'd imagine so. You need to place cygwin in the root directory so that the stupid anti-tampering features both have won't stop you from starting up a mud via cygwin--very annoying. Next, you'll need to verify within files.h that you have declared where the class files and such are to be found--if you haven't already. I haven't attempted to run base smaugfuss 1.9 yet, but I suppose I could install it and see what all needs doing, specifically, if you are running Win7.

A quick Google for the startup permission denied error gives: http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/bbshowpost.php?bbsubject_id=7667

I had the same problem a long time ago, but I don't remember what I did to fix it.

Since I couldn't edit my post...here's the update..

Downloaded, unzipped and compiled smaugfuss 1.9 without issue. Logged in just fine with the admin account without an issue. Everything seems to work as intended, nothing new done on my end, aside from ensuring I placed it in a part of the HDD that's not managed exclusively by Windows. heh

Cygwin is evil and needs to die in a fire.

You could always just download a VM of the linux distro of your choice and boot that up, then you'd be working in the native environment the MUD was coded for.
