The cd src; make was k but then is I did a nohup ./startup &

When i did the make no errors where seen ...

ALl those commands are a part of the Shell Code that allows a game administrator to control parts of the server from in the game. Shell Commands only work if you're running with MultiPort, which requires you to set three *seperate* port values in mud.h. For example: MAIN_PORT 5000, BUILD_PORT 6000, CODE_PORT 7000.

I'd check to make sure your makefile doesn't have Multiport uncommented. If you intended on having it uncommented, then be sure you set your port values to three seperate numbers. You'll then need to run instances of the game for all three ports.

I hope this helps.

Ok, I take back part of my post.
I know for a fact the errors on boot are due to not having Multiport enabled. You should be able to ignore them though, since the game should just remove or null the commands.

-- Edit --

As for the crashing goes... Stock AFKMud unzips and runs fine for me. Are you connecting to the game when it goes down? I'd also double check permissions on the folders and subfolders for the afkmud dist. Lastly, I'd make sure if you have a disk quota, that you're not exceeding it. Mind you, these are just thoughts.

Comment out the MACHINE line in the Makefile and recompile. Probably tried to optimize you for an Athlon processor and didn't realize you weren't on one
