Hi,
I'm currently writing a program to create and edit AFKMud 2 area files. It's a Qt based program that will be in alpha state in a few days.
To write the parsers and writers for the area files, I used information from the areadocs folder and tested them against the area files in the area folder (The documentation seems to be a bit outdated in some parts). No information was taken from the source code.

Since I use the Qt framework, I'm bound to the (L)GPL license which allows commercial purposes.

"license.txt" said:

Does this also apply to the documentations (areadocs folder) and/or to the areas? If that is the case, am I allowed to publish the program under the GPL or LGPL v3?

Moved to the AFKMud Support forum since this pertains directly with that codebase. .........................

Just so I have all of this straight, this is what I understand:

* You wrote an area editor for AFKMud.
* No AFKMud source code has been used.
* It can read/write the current format for the area files.

If this is the case, it sounds perfectly ok to me that it can be licensed under GPL. .........................

I was not sure about that. Sorry and thanks for moving it.

Yes, although there are still some bugs and rough edges and the MUD won't load them currently, but I'm working on that. Also, there is some work done to move the MUD specific code into plugins, which I will work on later. For now, everything's hardcoded :)

Thank you. I will post some more about it later.

Topic change from: Area Editor - License question

Okay, here's a first alpha release of the program. More can be read here.
No binaries yet, especially the windows users will have trouble getting a working version unless they have a complete Qt environment installed. I didn't manage to find all dependencies to make a downloadable version. Building on Linux should be easy, Mac users will have to figure it out on their own, sorry.
