There are many times while building a nice crunchy program in which I would really really love the user's input besides specific key phrases. I've been wanting (For a long time now) some sort of variable that enabled a mobile to temporarily store strings of data, like "say" or "emotes" etc., and I've only got a limited idea how that could be accomplished without it being big and nasty. Has anybody else tried to think this through? (Or succeeded?)

How long do you want vars to last? I have a system in my MUD for prog variables (allows for math, etc).

Until the prog has ended? Or maybe until the next reset or something?

I think that both of those are actually not what you want. You said that you need player input, so you can't just keep it around until the end of the prog, because (by necessity) your prog ends when waiting for more input. Waiting until the next reset could work, but then your progs will break whenever something happens during a reset. There's not really that much special about a reset, and if you're going to store variables quasi-persistently until resets, you might as well store them until the mob dies or something.
