How are you extracting the archive? Are you doing it with Cygwin or a Windows program?

And no, you really do want the Unix file format, not DOS.

David, im extracting the archive with windows at the moment, winzip.

Should i untar from cygwin you reckon?

Definitely, winzip is known to do some weird things with empty folders and so forth. Best to stay in Cygwin from start to finish. The command is: tar -xzf <your .tgz file>

ok, that solved it .. managed to log in and everything.

i will eventually run this on a linux box but right now my servers are all windoze..

Glad that it works now. :smile:

One thing you can try is installing a virtual machine using VMWare's free player software. It might be easier than setting up a dedicated computer, and there are much less quirks and oddities than with Cygwin.

I will look at that.. i doubt i'll need to worry for awhile.. in terms of load..
since we are taking this as a slow burn project..

Im sure i'll be back with lots of questions :)

What archive was untared? I just suffered a major hard drive crash, and now I want to reinstall AFKmud, but now I'm getting the same issues ans Inga had, although I have no idea what the solution was.

Isn't the only file you DL for AFKMUD an archive?
