Hi,

I am looking for a good MUD server codebase that is still in active
development, written in C, and with an open-source style license. Does
anyone here know of such MUD server codebases ? Because the most
popular ones I could find, like CircleMUD, arent being developed
anymore since the mid-90's. Ando so far, the only ones that I have come
across are tbaMUD, CWG, SMAUGFUSS, and AFKMUD.

Thanks in advance,

John Smith

You'll have to define what you mean by "open-source style license". Some would say that the Diku family of MUDs are not open source. But, the FUSS branch and AFKMud (the focus of this site) are under active development.

I prettty much mean 'any license approved by the open source initiative' (http://www.opensource.org), which includes, among others, GPL, and BSD -based licenses.

Ah. Well, I don't think that the Diku family of licenses would meet your requirements, due to the restrictions on what you can do with the code.

Well, I know that DikuMUD places restrictions on commercial use, and both GPL and BSD dot not, but I guess that it would still meet my requirements as Im not planning to use it for commercial purposes.

DikuMUD and all of its derivatives would meet your less strict definition of open source. They allow modification, derivation, etc, they just don't allow commercial use. However, because of that, they won't qualify as acceptable under the open source communism the GPL supporters like to propagate :)
