Version 1.4 of AFKMud has been released. There are no patch files for this update.
Version 1.3 was skipped, this version was only made available to Arthmoor clients.

Why no patch files? Because several of the things added this time around would have
made that impractical at best. If you REALLY want to have patch files, this time you
get to do them yourself

Standard disclaimer type stuff: Changes in this version may or may not remain compatible with your
older support files, such as areas, commands, skills, socials, etc. If things break, you were warned.
Now, on to the goodies:

New stuff this release:

Removed BFD and replaced it with dlsym support instead. This frees up even the need for the
DECLARE_*_FUN definitions in your H files, as well as sets the code up for future possibility
of becoming modular. [Trax]
Reorganized the codebase to drastically reduce the disk space and memory used by the mud. [Samson]
Trimmed excess fields from various structs to reduce ram usage. [Samson]
Dropped the debug option to g2 instead of g3. Disk space further reduced without reducing core value. [Samson]
Added FreeBSD support using the gmake compiler. [Samson]
Added Cygwin support - see readme [Samson]
Added the socket command to the random treasure code and activated support for it.
Area file version has been raised. All mobs in areas below version 18 with gold amounts
larger than 0 will be affected by this. [Samson]
Completed the random treasure code by adding the Runeword combinations. [Samson]
Added a feature where mobs can have randomized names assigned to them that change with each repop. [Tarl]
Added automatic armor stat assignment in OLC, random treasure, and metallurgy code. [Samson]
Added automatic weapon stat assignment in OLC, random treasure, and metallurgy code. [Samson]
Added automatic rent assignment for objects in OLC. [Samson]
Upgraded to Noplex's liquid system 3.0b [Samson]
Added the ability to raise an attribute at every 20th level. [Samson]
Added a telenofly room flag so teleport rooms flagged with it won't teleport flying people. [Samson]
Added a twohand flag to create 2-Handed weapons with. [Samson]
Added a random name generator for use by newbies during authorization. [Samson]

By the way, there will be a few things that need new documentation. Have no fear, these will be coming along shortly. We haven't forgotten

Since 1.4 represents such a large change from how things previously worked, the download counters have been reset. Previous versions racked up a total of 771 downloads. Not bad considering it often failed to work on alot of systems. Hopefully this version will have solved much of that.

Interesting thing was noticed about pre-1.4 versions. Out of 771 downloads, only EIGHT people complied with the license. That's a sad statistic, one which is seriously calling into question the desire to actively release more code. It's also something we'll be keeping an eye on over the next few months. If this trend continues, it's very possible 1.4 may be the last version released for public consumption.
