Bug: Killing any NPC will crash the game
Danger: Critical - Game crash due to botched bugfix edit.

fight.c, damage

Locate:
      set_cur_char( victim );
      raw_kill( ch, victim );
      victim = NULL;


Remove the block.

This major screw up was due to a fouled bugfix edit. While the code compiled correctly, it obviously didn't WORK correctly. One of the many pitfalls of not having enough time to do proper playtesting on things like this!
