I guess i should start this post by saying a big thank you to all the coders builders and just plain mud fans of Afkmud. I have been Reading the fourms of a few days now and have
laughed, cryed and went "HUH?" so much the people arround me are starting to wounder what porno site i am actualy on.
I'm new to codeing and the Coder i have helping me knows more than i do but that still isnt much. I have downloaded the afkmud and started going throught the features (WOW What a Mud, good job to the whole team). I found out all the things i wanted in a mud and have in the codebase im working with now, are done and done better in Afk.
Now to the problem: I use cygwin on a windows machine (98) and was able to compile the src cleanly with the instructions included. the problem appears when i run the exe i get bugs of the kind .......well it seems the disk i had the bugs on is erased humm. So much for preperation... Ill describe the bug and send the actual snip in another post as im not a my home computer
problem: the bugs appear when i run the exe and say something to the effect *skill not found* and the same for the commands table ect.
i have read the docs included and thought i read somthing about skills ect not loading but now cant find the section where i saw that. It could have been in the forms or on a web page (sigh). Now i know this is going to be somthing simple, as that is my luck.
Big thanks all arround
sorry bout the long post will send bugs snip asap

This may be related to the dl library. I had a similar difficulty with OpenBSD and finally tracked it back to difference between the way GNU ld works (perfectly, under FreeBSD and Linux) and the native OpenBSD linker works. Unfortunately for me, GNU ld doesn't seem to want to function correctly under OpenBSD, so I had to hack an ugly workaround to get things functioning.
I am a little surprised that cygwin fails in this way though, as I'm sure it uses a modified GNU ld. I would double check that the Makefile settings include the DL library support, and that you have a reasonably current version of cygwin. Of course, I always suggest setting up a linux or bsd box in preference to dealing with windows
Good luck!

I would make sure that what you're dealing with in this case isn't simply the code telling you the multiport commands are not found since they won't be while the feature is disabled. I'm going to be redoing the command table for that the same way the I3 command table is done now so that this won't happen again.

Thank you for the quick response, i'll check to see what version of cygwin im useing. i dl one about a month ago but that was before my hard drive died so i could have reinstalled an old copy and ill check all my settings again. I did find the Readme file i accidently deleted it in all my fiddling arround. i found the part about Dlsym and after reviewing my bugreport i think that may be the problem, not sure how to solve it, but im reading up on it right now. Btw here is the exact snip im getting

This problem will be addressed in the next patch. Most of those look like shell commands it wasn't able to locate because that support is off. I'm setting up to have it load shell commands into a separate hash, and at some point it'll be editable online just like usual, but for now it's going to be hard coded to the shellcommands.dat file that got create.
