Trying to figure out how to open up the force primary ability to all players and most races at character creation. Is this an easy change?

Also where would I go about changing the following things?
<1> Login screen. I've spent the last few years in the MUSH/MUX/MUSE world and as such I've come to expect this to be connect.txt, being unable to find anything like that I'am unsure where to look.
<2> Mudname. I'am hoping that it is a central config somewhere that can be changed instead of a dozen or so references all over the place.

The login screen is stored as a helpfile called 'greeting'. If you edit that, it will change what the login screen for your MUD looks like. Cset I believe lets you change the default MUD name, but that is only code wise obviously. You need to use grep to find it in helpfiles and/or references which got left in the code. Oh, the syntax I believe is "cset mud_name Whatever". Hope that helps.

Apparently there isnt a 'greeting' file anywhere within the various sub directories. And cset doesnt recognize 'mud_name', 'mudname', 'mud', or 'name' as valid arguments (Also the option isnt listed in the cset helpfile).

Still trying to figure out how to enable the force primary ability for all players.

Well, in Smaug there is a greeting help file which to edit you type "hedit greeting".
Think that is what gaz ment and same with the cset mud_name its also for Smaug.
I havent messed with swfote yet so can't be of much help till i actually take the time to check it out.

Thanks for the tips. I'll keep fiddling with it till either I figure it out or till someone can post some more detailed info that applies to this codebase.

Sorry! I totally missed that this was for SW: FOTE FUSS. Anyways, here is what to do for changing your MUD Name: grep for it! The syntax you wanna use is:

grep -i "fote" *c

Do that in your src folder, you may wanna go to your area folder and do the same, the syntax for that being:

grep -i "fote" *are

I didn't see a lot of references in the src folder with FOTE so it should be a quick and dirty job. To make it real quick I recommend using the text editor vi. It has a nice global replace which I have grown to love. Just Google 'global replace' and 'vi'. Once again, sorry about thinking cset had that option.

[Edit: I figured I'd make mention that manually editing your help.are may be a faster way to editing your helpfiles. If you go that route make sure you -copyover/reboot/hotboot- to make the changes go into affect into your game.]

FotE v2.0 from swfote.sourceforge.net has a centralized mudname that can be changed via cset and lots of other features 1.1fuss doesn't have..

Just a thought...

Btw: If you want everyone to have some force open up comm.c ...i think its in the nanny function ....
you should find something like:
        if ( ch->top_level == 0 )
        {
//          OBJ_DATA *obj;
            int iLang;

            ch->pcdata->clan      = NULL;
            ch->pcdata->learned[gsn_smallspace] = 10;
            ch->pcdata->learned[gsn_shipsystems] = 10;
            ch->pcdata->learned[gsn_navigation] = 10;
            ch->pcdata->learned[gsn_scan] = 10;
            ch->pcdata->learned[gsn_throw] = 10;
            ch->sp = 2;
            ch->perm_lck = number_range(13, 18);
            ch->perm_frc = number_range(-1000, 20);
            ch->affected_by       = race_table[ch->race].affected;
            ch->perm_lck         += race_table[ch->race].lck_plus;
            ch->perm_frc         += race_table[ch->race].frc_plus;

and tack on:
            ch->force_chance = 1;

Later,
KeB

Thanks KeB. That was what I was looking for...however I didnt know there was a 2.0 of FotE so I'am giving that a looksee as I type this out.

Gatz, pico is my editor of choice followed by emacs when pico isnt available. I never have liked vi all that much. As to globally replacing names in multiple files, that isnt an option I like very much. I had already considered it and I do appreciate your comments, but if the 1.2 Fuss version cant change it in one or two places then maybe I should wait till it can or look elsewhere for the time being.

Not meaning any disrespect toward the 1.2 Fuss folks, it has so far been the most bug-free SW mudbase I've come across.
