Ok... I have Cygwin up and running and I compiled the SWR source and have a generic MUD up and running.

Now, I want to strip out just about EVERYTHING. I want to remove all the areas, all the planets, all the items, all the mobs, and start from scratch.

At this point, I'll mention that I'm a novice C and C++ programmer, and very computer literate. I've done building on some MUD's before, but not a lot. So I'm not a complete newbie, but not very experienced either. So...

I started with the areas folder. I changed area.lst to include only limbo.are and help.are because I believe these 2 have to stay. I removed the rest of the areas.

Now, when I boot the mud up, it crashes upon character creation. It's trying to create an item who's vnum no longer exists. Where do I look to start fixing things like this?

Where also should I look to finish stripping out the rest of the content to start from scratch? If anyone can point me to other resources and forums to ask qusetions on as well, that would be great.

Thanks if you can help.

You need to leave newbie.are and omni_complex. Should fix that problem.

I don't have a newbie.are, but there's a new_acad.are, and I assume that's what you mean.

I'll leave it, and the omni_complex one, and strip the rest out.

I'm working on getting all the races start-areas set to my new custom area in the code right now, and I've been greping through the code to find other references to these areas, so hopefully I'll be able to remove them as well before long.

Thanks for the help.

I've found tons of boards on smaug building, but not many SWR specific ones. I know they are very similar, but if anyone has any resources or forums to link me to, I'd appreciate it.

there is a supreme lack of SWR only resources, unfortunately. For building questions you could always try to recruit an experienced SWR builder, but these are hard to find. The help files are also sorely lacking, and ofter have many many SMAUG or earlier references(check stock "help str";). There were a couple of building guides I beleive, but I don't know them off hand. I will try to track them down and respond here.

Gendi's building guide
Mob specific of same guide

I know that for real newbies this is a good resource. Basic, but helpful.
