It's patch time again folks!

Disclaimer type thing: Patch file upgrades are not 100% guaranteed to work. BACK UP YOUR MUD before using it. If you don't, and it breaks, don't blame us. We warned you.

This patch is dependent upon having the 1.2b package in place, either from the full release or by having patched
it with the 1.2b patch. Applying it without the 1.2b patch probably won't work and we won't support errors caused
because of this.

Note - there is no 1.2c package. Don't ask

To apply - all you should need to do is put the patch file in your src dir, and type: patch < 1.2bto1.2d.patch

So now you ask, "What does this patch do Samson?"

Well, I'll tell you, have a look:

Bugfixes for this patch:

Mobs will no longer open the doors to NO_MOB rooms. [Tarl]
Pets will no longer accept rent items to be carried. [Tarl]
Items given to pets will be saved and loaded with the owner. [Tarl]
Freshly logged in PCs will now save upon entering the game to prevent crashes from resetting them. [Samson]
Horses will no longer wield weapons or wear armor. [Tarl]
Aexit command fixed to show somewhere exits in listing. [Dwip]
Antivampire area flag clarified for areaconversion. [Samson]
Antithief flag properly converts to antirogue flag for area conversion. [Samson]
spec_poison wrapper for spec_snake added for area conversion compatibility. [Samson]
Disabled a portion of buggy combat code dealing with PKs and groups. [Samson]
Solaris compatibility fix for I3 socket connection. ( Thanks Garil! ) [Samson]
Wizinvis indicators fixed for who displays. [Tarl]

Non-Bugfix alterations:

Multiport feature has been reconfigured so it can be disabled at compile time. [Samson]
Slist command now accepts class and level arguments. [Tarl]
Players following other players should no longer blindly follow them into a DT room. [Tarl]
IMC code hooks reorganized. [Samson]
Added channel logging to file for I3. [Samson]
Shuffled pc_data struct info around some for I3. [Samson]
Vnums for death/recall/etc to Bywater changed to reflect new area design. [Samson/Tarl]
Realm values reduced to generic builder/coder/admin values. [Samson]
Number of allowable pets reduced for balance reasons. [Tarl]
Petlist command now accepts a PC name as an argument. [Tarl]
Exp to level added to report command. [Tarl]
Pets will now use any spec_progs attached to them. [Tarl]

New stuff this patch:

Random name generator added for character creation( not active yet ). [Tarl]
Generic Vnums for random treasure items added. [Samson]
More groundwork code laid for random treasure saving and loading. [Samson]

Non-Code updates:

New Bywater area with added miniquests for low level characters. [REQUIRED]
Updates to newbie zone and creation zone. [REQUIRED]
Tons of helpfile fixes and additions.
Balance tweaks to races, classes, and skills.

Ok
I patched as was told
then i make clean
and it seemed to work as i did not get any errors in the make
, and the mud starts just fine
is there a command to check that the patch took?
ie to see what version is running?

or am I just confusing myself

Thank You

Kilroy

If you didn't get any errors, the patch should have worked. Otherwise you'll have *.rej files laying about.

Of course, no day in the life of Samson would be complete without a whopper of a bug..... so..... a "hotfix" has been issued for 1.2d and is now available for download. Fixes having a player's equipment revert to their inventory after EVERY save to disk.

Needless to say, if you grabbed the patch, you need the FIX file that goes with it. If you downloaded the full codebase package on 7-25, download it again before you deploy it.

This hotfix also addresses the bool "errors" on Redhat 7.3 machines, thanks to Trax.

Ok,
got the hotfix, called it 1.2d.fix, put it in my src dir.
[root@RogerRabbit src]# patch < 1.2d.fix
patching file afk.c
Hunk #1 succeeded at 5399 (offset 1 line).
patching file mud.h
Hunk #1 FAILED at 93.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file mud.h.rej
patching file save.c
[root@RogerRabbit src]#

is the result.

what did I do wrong?

Nothing. Tis the nature of patches to not always work as planned. Just have a look at the mud.h.rej and patch that in by hand.

maybe my brain isn't working right today, but i dl's the whole new codebase, and when i compiled (on mandrake 8.2)
this is what i got.

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -liberty
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[1]: *** [smaug] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

i have a working version of the 1.2b so what did i do differently you ask? i don't remember!! ack!
if this is a problem someone else has had and is posted on here somewhere i couldn't find it. feel free to "virtually" slap me upside the head if this is a "moron" problem.
maybe i've been up too long. dunno, just not sure what to do.
guess i'll try making a copy of working afk and trying the patch.

I'm using Mandrake 9 beta and I don't have that library and I can't seem to find it in the RPMS, what is it called?

It's usually part of the binutils package. Though I can't be sure if Mandrake 9 beta even has it.
