Basically, what I want to do is have a race that, when killing a mob within 10 levels of the player's, a variable will increase by one. Then, at a later date, the player can use another mob (with an appropriate mprog) to exchange that variable for items, or class-changes, etc.
To elaborate, this would be a race of soul-eaters. Killing a mob in the level-limit would give you one 'soul', which would basically take a "Soul : 0" in your score and make it "Soul : 1", and so-forth. Then you'd exchange the souls for powerups.
Like bless, or glory, only based on killing a mob based on its level.
How the heck would I do this?
