I've gone and gotten cygwin as well as the afk codebase but I haven't any idea where to proceed from there. Looking around I wasn't able to find any information to help me so this is my last resort.

The install file gave me an idea of where to start, but I'd really directions of greater depth as I'm extremely lacking in knowledge here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, yes, I'd gotten all packages available when I downloaded cygwin to be safe. My problem is that I have little more than a basic notion of what the relationship between cygwin and the afkmud codebase is. I'm just not sure as to how to operate here and I hoped that such basic information might be accessable here.

Basic ops in Cygwin is covered in good detail on http://www.cygwin.com and should be more than enough to get you going. After that, treat your Cygwin prompt as though it were a linux prompt and you should be fine.

I keep getting this upon 'make' :

make -s afkmud
Compiling o/imc.o...
Assembler messages:
FATAL: can't create o/imc.o: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [o/imc.o] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

I have no clues to go on here. Any ideas?

Do you have a sub-directory off your src directory called o?

I do not. Should there be one?

Well I'd grabbed the file off the AFK site and extracted it as normally I would any other such file. What could I have done to cause to 'o' dir to not be there?

When you extracted it, did you tell it to create empty directories? If not yuo'd be missing several critical directories, including the initial o directory off of the src directory, and also most of the backup directories and player directories and ... if you haven't made any code changes yet and you haven't done any building yet (which I suspect is the case, since you're still on your initial make) you might consider just expanding the archive again, including empty directories this time, over what you've got there. If you have already made changes, you still might try re-expanding the original archive over what you've got but set it to include empty directories but not overwrite newer files.
